The frank answer is, and they know it, this is not because of Khan Academy, otherwise I’ll be wearing bulletproof vest, i think the textbook industry is getting collapse very very very rapidly. And I think in ten years, the industry will not exist.
The reason is a kind of obvious. There are two things the textbook tries to do. It tries to explain some concept and it tends to do this in some kind of prose text that it does but even they have no idea about who’s reading what, it has no information that version five is actually better than version four, which is better than version three, there is no data to proof that…
There was a time when no school system existed but the society was not necessarily less educated compared to a “schooled” society which we proudly call as modern.
